Doris Tucker Meyer, board member of WAGE International, attended our February meeting to discuss partnering with the Woman’s Club of Red Bank. WAGE International (Women And Girls’ Education) is a vibrant community of volunteers who share a passion for empowering women and girls through education.
One of Doris’s favorite WAGE projects was a summer enrichment program at Asbury Park Middle School. Students experienced self-expression through art, storytelling, conflict resolution, computer training and research of historical role-models. Doris’s favorite part of the program was watching the students become comfortable expressing their creative sides.
WAGE also supports international programs such as “The Rainbow Program” at Loreto Sealdah in India. WAGE connects volunteers with the school integrating girls of diverse socio-economic backgrounds towards the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering through education.
Doris believes that everyone benefits when we empower girls. Girls who are educated can transform their communities. WAGE is very excited to work along with the Woman’s Club of Red Bank supporting literacy through community outreach.
WAGE will be holding it’s annual spring fundraiser (silent auction) at the Woman’s Club of Red Bank on April 2nd from 2-4 pm. Please join us for an afternoon of live music, gift baskets, poetry readings and refreshments. Proceeds will help fund scholarships and mentoring for underprivileged women and girls.
