Article in the Two River Times “Literary Doors Open at Woman’s Club of Red Bank”

Elizabeth Wulfhorst of the Two River Times interviewed Christina Hardman O’Neal, the Woman’s Club of Red Bank club’s current president, membership chair Jill Merriman, and Dorothea Zando, a board member and moderator of the book club meetings.

The Woman’s Club of Red Bank organization was initially a social club that evolved into a literacy society and then incorporated in 1917 to promote literacy for women.

The clubhouse, The Reckless Estate was purchased in 1921 and continued to support literacy as well as provide rooms for single women.

The club has become a membership non-profit organization with a mission to support literacy through community service engagement, preserving our historic clubhouse for future generations to enjoy, and providing a strong network for personal and professional development.

During the COVID-19 pandemic the club has pivoted to online activities and in an effort to “get back to our literary roots” started a book club.
