A Cleaner, Safer Reckless Estate: A Two-Phase Cleanup
Taking Care of the Details That Help Preserve Our Historic Clubhouse
Maintaining a historic building means paying attention to every detail—including the spaces that members and visitors don’t always see.
In June 2026, the Woman’s Club of Red Bank undertook a two-phase cleanup and sanitation project at the Reckless Estate after signs of pests were discovered. The project focused on thoroughly cleaning areas where food, supplies, and stored materials are kept.
Phase 1: Cleaning and Sorting
The first phase focused on the kitchen and library storage areas.
Members Jennifer Noonan, Carol Ingaro, and Kate Rafferty cleaned and sanitized all of the kitchen cabinets, removing everything so the cabinets could be thoroughly cleaned before items were returned.
The library cabinet also received attention. Everything was removed and sorted—some items were discarded, while others were boxed for further cleaning and sanitation.
Phase 2: A Deeper Cleanup
For the second phase, the Club hired two professional cleaners to tackle additional cleaning and sanitation. Carol Ingaro and Kate Rafferty assisted with the project, helping move, sort, and organize items as the cleaners worked.
The result was a cleaner, more manageable space—and a better understanding of what still needs to be addressed.
Before, During and After

The project is a good example of the behind-the-scenes work involved in caring for the Reckless Estate. Our before-and-after photos show the difference in the kitchen, library storage area, and the boxes of items that still need attention.
There is always more to do in a historic clubhouse, but every cleanup project is a step toward maintaining a welcoming, safe and well-cared-for home for the Woman’s Club of Red Bank.
Thank you to Jennifer, Carol and Kate for their hands-on volunteer work, and to the two cleaners who helped us tackle Phase 2.
