Art on Display: Peggy Masse on Remembrance, Storytelling & Hope

Peggy Masse art-on-display

Through Reckless Pen & Palette, the Woman’s Club of Red Bank’s initiative showcasing local artists, the Clubhouse walls regularly become a gallery for artists from our community. This month, the featured artist is Peggy Masse, Chair of the Woman’s Club Art Committee and the creator of Reckless Pen & Palette.

Known professionally as Tyrell Masse, Peggy is a visual artist who looks for new ways to communicate ideas and emotions through art. Her current collection at the Reckless Estate is a deeply personal reflection on September 11, 2001, and the emotions that remain decades later.

Remembering Through Art

Twenty-five years later, September 11 remains part of American history and the personal history of millions of people. The reading of the names, moments of silence, and the annual Tribute in Light continue to make remembrance an active part of our national memory.

For Peggy, these paintings are her way of remembering—not simply by recreating the images of that day, but by exploring the emotions that remain.

The collection includes 12 works:

  • Never
  • Separated
  • Third Eye
  • Above
  • Broadsided
  • Not Broken Beyond Repair
  • Higher View
  • What Are We Caught In
  • Hard Time Making a Decision
  • Going Towards the Light
  • Hope
  • Underneath

Together, the works reflect a range of emotions and perspectives, moving through difficult memories toward resilience, light, and hope.

A Month of Storytelling

The collection has a special connection to this month’s Lights, Camera, Legacy: Women in Communications Shaping the Future of Cinema, the Woman’s Club’s annual breakfast fundraiser.

Both art and film have the power to preserve memories, communicate emotion, and tell stories in ways that stay with us.

Everyone attending the October 17 breakfast fundraiser will have an opportunity to view Peggy’s collection and the other artwork currently on display throughout the historic Reckless Estate.

Supporting Reckless Pen & Palette

The Art Committee is raising funds for Illuminate Local Art, a project to install a hanging art system and gallery lighting at the Reckless Estate. The improvements will help protect the historic 1894 plaster walls while providing a better way to showcase local artists. ->Support the Reckless Pen & Palette fundraiser
