Presented by Jill Merriman Enterprises
Jill Merriman Enterprises held a one-day women’s financial workshop geared towards educating women on topics such as keeping a budget, credit card debt, cash flow, savings and investments, and tips for setting up their at-home business.
Being an accountant with over 30 years of experience and having my own home-based accounting business for over 25 years, I wanted to give back to the community. To be able to share my wealth of financial knowledge with women who needed to learn this valuable information is a blessing. I know that many women entrepreneurs don’t feel comfortable with numbers and don’t know where to start at looking at the financial position of their business so I set out to take the “sting” out of the financial component of their business records.
Keeping a Budget, Credit Card Debt, Cash Flow, Savings, & Investments
Written specifically for the average woman business owner who is interested to know the basics of financial literacy, I set out to write a 10 module program.
Knowing many women get that “glazed look” (or so I’ve been told) soon after listening to someone speak about numbers, I included in my program interactive exercises, group activities, PowerPoint slides and flip chart examples so that the day’s rhythm was informative but light and upbeat. Peppered in between the modules were dance energizer breaks, healthy snacks and lunch, vendor shopping opportunities and of course, a way to give back by selling raffles to 22 gift baskets with the proceeds benefiting the Nepal earthquake victims.
The Woman’s Club was the perfect location for me to have this workshop as it was a blend of all 3: a professional environment, yet charming and comfortable. For the event, I “chickifyed” this historic, Victorian home with linen tablecloths, floral arrangements and delicious desserts such as chocolate-covered strawberries. Oh, and don’t forget the dance music, that really was the icing on the cake I figured we can learn and have fun!
