BIO

Jessica Solomon is the Director of the Monmouth County Jewish Heritage Museum and member of the Jewish Federation Women’s Philanthropy which engages women in the fulfilling work of making the world a better place. Jessica has facilitated multiple exhibits and educational experiences with incredible displays / research etc. about our local history including the Eisner family and many other instrumental citizens.

The museum, which opened in 2008, traces the history of Jewish immigration and activities in Monmouth County over the past 300 years, from the farmers and peddlers of the past to the scientists and technology pioneers of Fort Monmouth and Bell Labs. The museum features numerous collections of furniture, artifacts, rare documents, and books that had been preserved at the Levi Solomon Farmstead, one of New Jersey’s earliest known Jewish farmsteads. For example, we are all familiar with the Eisner Library on front St. but did you know the history of the Eisner family?

Born in Bohemia in 1859, a part of Germany that is now the Czech Republic, Sigmund Eisner emigrated to the United States in 1882. Borrowing $2 from a cousin in Keyport, he began working as a peddler. Then in the early years of the 20th century, Sigmund Eisner established the Sigmund Eisner Company, a small business that ultimately became the largest manufacturer of military uniforms in the United States. Eisner’s achievements went far beyond business. As he prospered, he also served, working to better his community and help the people he employed build stable and prosperous lives of their own.

Jessica Solomon is passionate both about history and progress and is a welcome addition to our panel!
