Woman’s Equality Day in August

Woman's Suffrage Presentation

The Superior Court of New Jersey, Monmouth Vicinage is celebrating “Women’s Equality Day” and commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting the right to vote to women.

Woman’s Club of Red Bank members (and all) are invited to join the event from 12:30-1:30 on the lawn of the Monmouth Courthouse to mark this observance.

The amendment was first introduced in 1878. In 1971, the U.S. Congress designated August 26th as Women’s Equality Day.

On August 17, 2018, the vicinage will observe Women’s Equality Day by honoring the suffragettes who advanced the equality of women at large rallies in Monmouth County.  Dr. Lyndell O’Hara, a Professor of History and representative of the Ocean Grove Historical Association, will present to those gathered on the courthouse lawn. Dr. O’Hara will provide information on the history of significant sites in Monmouth County where members of the women’s equality movement gathered to advance the joint causes of abolition, suffrage and temperance.

We will also have living historical figures from the Monmouth County Historical Assoc. help to recreate key suffrage dialogues and reenact portions of suffrage rallies.

JOB EVENT, TOO

Monmouth Vicinage EEO/HR staff will also be available during the event to discuss open job opportunities with attendees.
