Acoustic Magic at Reckless Steamy Nights with The Mancini Brothers
The Magnificent Mancini Brothers delivered a standout acoustic performance for the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation (JSJBF) Reckless Steamy Nights series. Featuring a rare gathering of top-tier Shore musicians, the night moved through a masterfully curated setlist including “Deep Elum Blues,” Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting in Limbo,” and a soulful “Six Strings Down.” Highlights included John Pittas’s accordion work on Zydeco classics, Dave Ambrosey’s powerhouse vocals on Keb’ Mo’ tracks, and a rousing “Workin’ Man Blues” featuring guest Gary Neuwirth on harp. It was a heartfelt, high-energy evening that proved why these musicians remain the gold standard of the local scene.
A Night of Acoustic Magic at the Woman’s Club
There is a specific kind of alchemy that happens when you take the Jersey Shore’s finest blues musicians out of the noisy bars and place them in a “listening room” environment. That magic was on full display this past Saturday as the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation (JSJBF) presented a special acoustic edition of their beloved concert series, Reckless Steamy Nights.
The venue for this monthly tradition is the historic Woman’s Club of Red Bank. The house itself carries a rhythmic history, having been built by Senator Anthony Reckless—the namesake of the concert series (history of the Reckless Estate). While the JSJBF typically fills this space with soul-stirring sounds on the last Friday of every month, this special Saturday session with the Magnificent Mancini Brothers was one for the record books.
The ensemble, led by Dave and Gary Ambrosey alongside Mike Flynn, Danny Carouso, and John Pittas, treated a packed house to a masterclass in acoustic arrangement. The setlist was a journey through roots music history, featuring everything from the century-old “Deep Elum Blues” to the swampy accordion rhythms of Buckwheat Zydeco.
