Honoring Diane Raver: A Legacy of Supporting New Jersey Filmmakers
The Woman’s Club of Red Bank is proud to honor Diane Raver, co-founder of the Garden State Film Festival, at our 2026 annual fundraiser, Lights, Camera, Legacy: Women in Communications Shaping the Future of Cinema. The event takes place Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the historic Reckless Estate in Red Bank, New Jersey. This year’s event celebrates the 25th year of the Garden State Film Festival and Diane Raver’s lasting contributions to New Jersey’s film community.
For more than two decades, Diane has helped create opportunities for independent filmmakers, championed emerging talent, and connected film to education and community. Her work reflects the important role New Jersey continues to play in American filmmaking—and the people who are helping shape its future.
Celebrating 25 Years of the Garden State Film Festival
Founded in 2002 by Diane Raver and the late actor Robert Pastorelli, the Garden State Film Festival (GSFF) was created to celebrate New Jersey’s history as the birthplace of American filmmaking while providing a platform for independent filmmakers from New Jersey and around the world. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, GSFF is committed to supporting independent filmmakers and strengthening the film community through its annual festival, educational programming, and year-round initiatives.
Over the past 25 years, the festival has grown into one of New Jersey’s signature independent film events. Held annually over four days in late March, GSFF brings filmmakers, actors, writers, musicians, industry professionals, students, and audiences together for a celebration of independent cinema.
The festival’s primary hubs include Asbury Park and Cranford, with additional screening venues throughout the region. Its programming encompasses more than 200 independent films each year, including narrative features, documentaries, short films, animations, music videos, and student productions.
GSFF is about much more than screenings. The festival creates opportunities for filmmakers to connect with audiences and with one another through red-carpet events, filmmaker panels, screenplay readings, industry networking events, live podcast tapings, and its annual awards ceremony. Beyond the annual event, GSFF runs film clinics and educational programming at high schools statewide, and its reach now extends into national media through a film club segment on America’s Frontlines, the country’s largest military podcast. Through workshops, youth mentoring, and community screenings for schools and senior groups, GSFF extends its mission beyond its annual festival. These year-round educational and outreach programs help introduce new audiences to independent film while encouraging the next generation of filmmakers to develop their voices.
Diane’s leadership has helped make the festival a place where established professionals and first-time filmmakers can share the same screen — and where emerging talent can find community, encouragement, and opportunity.

From Film Festival to Film Workforce Development:
New Jersey Film Academy
Diane’s commitment to New Jersey’s film community extends beyond celebrating completed films. Today, she is also helping build pathways for New Jersey residents to pursue careers behind the scenes. As Executive Director of the New Jersey Film Academy (NJFA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, she supports educational opportunities and workforce development across New Jersey.
The academy operates as a network across 13 New Jersey community colleges, led by Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. Its goal is to connect hands-on production education with real employment opportunities in New Jersey’s growing film and television industry.
What makes the academy particularly focused on workforce development is its connection to actual production. NJFA incorporates work-based learning and internship opportunities on active film and television sets shooting in New Jersey, giving students the chance to apply their training in a professional environment. The academy also provides a direct connection to the state’s production community. Graduates are added to the New Jersey Production Guide, helping connect trained talent with location managers, producers, and other industry professionals looking for crew.
For Diane, this work represents another way of investing in the future of filmmaking in the Garden State. The Garden State Film Festival creates a place to discover and celebrate filmmakers and their work; the New Jersey Film Academy helps people develop the practical skills needed to build careers in the industry.

Lights, Camera, Legacy: Celebrating Women in Cinema
Honoring Diane Raver is especially fitting for this year’s Lights, Camera, Legacy fundraiser, which brings together women working across different areas of storytelling and entertainment.
The event will feature a panel discussion with Casey DeStefano, DGA; Jessica Varian Carroll; and Madison Santos Wilson, exploring the future of cinema, mentorship, breaking barriers, and creating a more inclusive cinematic future.
Together, the panel and Diane’s story highlight the many ways women contribute to the entertainment industry—as filmmakers, writers, producers, actors, mentors, educators, workforce developers, and community leaders.
Diane’s story also reminds us that a film community does not happen by accident. It is built by people who create opportunities, open doors, nurture talent, and invest in the next generation.
